Children: Dean Winchester, Sam Winchester
Bio: He enlisted in the Marines at 17 (speculation). He went straight to Vietnam after basic training. He did his time there as a expert rifleman earning a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star.
His wife Mary died in a nursery fire when Dean was 4 and Sam was just 6 mos old.
Mary's death tore John to pieces causing him to slip into a depression and turned to alcohol to try and drown the pain. He met a woman named Missouri Mosely who opened up his eyes to the supernatural world one night in a bar. It was then that he learned of The Yellow-Eyed Demon.
He spent his life hunting the supernatural and raised Dean and Sam to do the same. Though as Sam grew older he wanted a normal life and left home to go to Stanford. Dean stayed by his dad's side, though this caused a rift between John and Sam that would take years until the two met face to face once more to be resolved.
John made the ultimate sacrifice when he nearly lost his son Dean. He traded both the colt and his own soul for Dean's life, and ended up in a coma. He fought for his life for months, and Dean and Sam had to make the tough choice to let them pull the plug. They had earlier made it seem their father was dead to let him rest peacefully at the hospital in hopes that he would recover. Though doctors came to the conclusion John Winchester would never come out of his coma and his sons had his plug pulling scheduled.
The same night John's life was to end his boy's fought the biggest fight of their lives against the Yellow Eyed Demon, and to save their lives once more, John's spirit manifested itself long enough for Dean to get the colt and be prepared for when the the demon retook control of the body it was housed in. Dean succeeded in killing it, and father and sons shared a moment. Then instead of darkness that tinged his soul, he left in the light.
At that moment John Winchester awoke from his coma with a start. He is now hunting again traveling with his son Dean once again.
